Spanaway Real Estate

Welcome to the Pacific Northwest

How did Spanaway get it's name?  They still argue (or at least not agree) on that.  From origins of a mule changing station located there that left the city of Tacoma just a "span away" to get to or the Nisqually Indian word "yawanaps" which means shining water named after the Lake, Spanaway was simply spelled backwards by pioneers to make it easier to name the town.

While there are several other interesting theories to the naming of the city "Spaueh Station" as it was first labeled in 1847 was later in 1890 "Platted as Lake Park".  It didn't stick and 7 years later became known as what it had always been called "Spanaway".  In 1970 the US Government officially recognized it's name the the unincorporated city had a name!

Located to the east of JBLM (Joint Base Lewis McChord) it is home to many military.  If your interested in more information about the area visit the Prairie House Museum at 812 East 176th Street, Spanaway WA. 98387
